- Robert Louis Stevenson State Park
- On Highway 29 south of Middletown, just at the top of the St. Helena
Grade is Robert Louis Stevenson State Park. He once had a cabin on the
Park grounds to "get away from it all". In addition to picnicking,
there are many hiking trails available to climb St. Helena Mountain or the
Palisades overlooking Calistoga and the Napa Valley.

- Carpeting a mountain ridge 10 miles northwest of Middletown off Highway
175 at Forestry Road, is the Boggs Mountain State Recreation Area. It
has 3,453 acres of woodland and 14 miles of trails for hikers, mountain
bikers, and equestrians. Boggs Mountain has an elevation of about
3,000 feet and there are 18 campsites with pit toilets, picnic tables, and
fire rings.

in the eastern foothills of the Mayacamus Mountains about 3 miles north of
