Central Park and Dry Creek Park are county parks with facilities for hiking, picnicking and horseback riding (if you bring your horse with you).  Middletown also has a Tennis Court and Swimming Pool with Lifeguards on duty downtown at the corner of Barnes and Wardlaw Streets.

Other recreation available in the Middletown area includes a nearby state park, a state forest, a hot springs resort, an 18-hole and two 9-hole (near Cobb) golf courses in addition to casino style gambling and a video game arcade.  Bicyclists have 4 designated loops detailed in a map and guide available from the Lake County Visitor Information Center.

Robert Louis Stevenson State Park
On Highway 29 south of Middletown, just at the top of the St. Helena Grade is Robert Louis Stevenson State Park.  He once had a cabin on the Park grounds to "get away from it all".  In addition to picnicking, there are many hiking trails available to climb St. Helena Mountain or the Palisades overlooking Calistoga and the Napa Valley.

Boggs Mountain Demonstration State Forest
Carpeting a mountain ridge 10 miles northwest of Middletown off Highway 175 at Forestry Road, is the Boggs Mountain State Recreation Area.  It has 3,453 acres of woodland and 14 miles of trails for hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians.  Boggs Mountain has an elevation of about 3,000 feet and there are 18 campsites with pit toilets, picnic tables, and fire rings.

Crazy Creek Gliders & Skydivers
Crazy Creek   is located at the Middletown Gliderport nestled in the eastern foothills of the Mayacamus Mountains about 3 miles north of Middletown on highway 29.  Activities include Skydiving, Tandem Skydiving, Accelerated FreeFall, Glider Rides, and a Glider Flight School.

Old Stone House Museum
Also at the southern end of Hidden Valley is the Old Stone House Museum originally built in 1854.  It is a California Historical Landmark and the Stone House Historical Society welcomes visitors.  Call for an appointment.
